The Election Commission today announced that the Presidential poll will be held on 19th of July and the counting will take place on 22nd July. Announcing the schedule for the Presidential poll, the Chief Election Commissioner, Mr. V.S. Sampath said that the notification for the polls will be issued on the 16th of this month.

The last date for filing of nomination is 30th June and the scrutiny will take place on 2nd July. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is 4th July.

Mr. Sampath said, the Election Commission has decided to appoint the Secretary General of the Rajya Sabha as Returning Officer for the presidential poll. He said, Assistant Returning Officer will also be appointed in all state capitals. The President is elected by a collegium comprising of elected members of both Houses of Parliament and the elected members of State Legislative Assembly of all states including National Capital territory of Delhi and Union Territory of Puducherry. He said, the Commission is taking all steps to ensure free and fair poll.
