Election Commission has ordered the removal of Director General of Police in poll-bound Manipur. Ratnakar Bral has already taken over as the new DGP. Chief Election Commissioner Dr. S.Y. Quraishi told mediapersons in Imphal this afternoon that most of the political parties have been complaining against the former DGP Yumnam Joykumar Singh. The Election Commission has also decided that every voter in Manipur will be photographed during voting.The actions were taken by the Election Commission during its comprehensive review of election-preparedness in Manipur which is the first of the five states to go to polls on January 28. After the review meeting, Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi told PTI that for the first time in the country, the Commission has decided to get every voter photographed at thetime of putting the ink-mark. He said, this step will help ensure that there is no bogus voting and no voter is impersonated during polling. The EC team led by Dr.Quraishi and Election Commissioners V SSampath and H S Brahma held meetings for reviewing the securityarrangements, logistics and infrastructure for polling toelect the 60-member state assembly. He said that whoever tries to disrupt poll process will be held accountable.Earlier Dr.Quraishi held discussions with the top officials of Manipur, Nagaland, Assam and Mizoram about intelligence sharing and security measures for smooth conduct of the state assembly elections. He also met representatives of political parties at Imphal.
