The Election Commission has opposed the proposal of State Funding of election. Addressing second regional consultation for electoral reforms organised by the Union law and Justice Ministry in Kolkata today, the Chief Election Commissioner, Dr. S. Y. Qureshi apprehended that political parties may misuse the money if it is done. Mr. Qureshi suggested that opinion poll should also be banned with the enforcement of model code of conduct. Expressing concern over the money power and paid news in election, the chief Election Commissioner said that stringent action should be taken to tackle this problem.
