The Election Commission has issued a show cause notice to Shiromani Akali Dal leader and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for allegedly asking people to secretly give funds for campaign.

The Commission said that prima facie, Badal, by making the statement during an election meeting at Jalandhar on the 12th of last month, had violated the Model Code of Conduct and also incited others to violate the law.

It asked Badal to explain his stand by Friday evening in this regard.

The notice was issued to Badal following a complaint by Punjab Congress leader, Sukhpal Singh Khaira.
