Election Commission has launched a special campaign to enroll young voters. This is part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Commission. The Commission has also launched a major initiative to make voters aware of the importance of their democratic right. This was revealed today by the Director General of the Election Commission Akshay Raut while addressing a press conference in New Delhi on Thursday.Mr. Raut said an award of one lakh rupees will be given by the Commission to the best District Election Officer for best electoral practices every year. Giving details of the voters awareness initiative, he said three symposiums have so far been held in three different zones of the country and the fourth is being organised in New Delhi tomorrow in which nine States including Jammu and Kashmir and the Uttar Pradesh are included. A photo exhibition is also being organised for the purpose. Addressing the press meet, Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Ms. Rina Ray said, 2 lakh 21 thousand young voters have been added to the voters list since last one year. She said over 94 per cent voters have already been provided photo identity cards. Over one crore 11 lakh voters have registered in the national capital.
