The Election Commission has rejected BJP's accusations of bias and said the Commission deplores attempts to cast aspersions on a constitutional body. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi yesterday, Chief Election Commissioner V. S. Sampath made it clear that the poll body is not afraid of anyone, any political party or any entity in doing its job.
Many political parties have criticised the BJP for questioning the Election Commission's functioning. Addressing the media in New Delhi yesterday, Congress leader Salman Khurshid said the BJP's spat with the Commission is reprehensible, regrettable and pathetic. NCP spokesman Nawab Malik said in Mumbai that it is a threat to constitutional bodies. Referring to BJP's protest against the Commission for denying permission to organize a rally at Benia Bag in Varanasi, JDU leader Sharad yadav told reporters in New Delhi that it is upto the Commission to decide whether to give permission for a rally or not.
