EC gives clean chit to Amit Shah for his speech linking Azamgarh with terrorists

The Election Commission (EC) has said there is nothing particularly wrong in the speech of BJP leader Amit Shah in which he reportedly described Azamgarh as a base of terrorists . During an interaction with Indian Women Press Corps in Delhi today , Election Commissioner H S Brahma said that he listened to the speech himself and found nothing objectionable.

He added the commission gave permission to Shah to campaign again only after he had expressed regret over his last statements in previous meetings and promised not to utter objectionable words any more.

Responding to questions, the Election Commissioner said there were adequate provisions in the Representation of the People Act to check the menace of hate speeches.
