In Assam, the Election Commission has disqualified 17 candidates from contesting the polls for three years for their failure to submit the expenditure of the last elections they had fought.Disclosing this to newsmen at Guwahati, the State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Mr.Hemanta Narzary said more than four thousand polling centres, out of the total of 23,813, have been identified as very sensitive. Over seven thousand booths have been marked as sensitive. Mr. Narzary said, 200 additional companies of para military forces are to be deployed by 25th of this month in the sensitive locations to monitor activities of miscreants. The State already has 96 companies of forces in possession. The Chief Electoral Officer said 163 cases of poll codeviolation have so far been received and almost all of them disposed off. Meanwhile, scrutiny of nomination papers received from 529 candidates, including 42 women is underway for the first phase of polls in 62 Assembly segments on 4th April. The last day of withdrawal of candidature for this phase is Monday next. The second phase of elections spread over 64 constituencies in the State will be held on 11th April.
