The Election Commission has dismissed media reports of clubbing of next year's assembly polls in five states and termed it baseless and misleading. The Commission has has clarified that there is no consideration or thinking as yet regarding timing of the Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Manipur and Goa.
The Commission in its statement has said that never in recent days, any deliberation on the matter has been taken up and such media reports are completely baseless.
Noting that general elections to the legislative Assembly of these five states are due in 2012, it said, that the Commission is engaged in its usual preparatory activities for quite some time in respect of these upcoming polls.
The Election Commission proposes another round of visit to these States in the first half of November to assess the ground situation and poll preparedness.
