A PTI reports says that the Election Commission has directed the Gujarat administration to file complaint and FIR against Narendra Modi for violating election law.

The Congress demanded filing of an FIR against BJP leader Narendra Modi for displaying his party symbol and making a speech after casting his vote in Gandhinagar, Gujarat today.

In a complaint to the Commission, Secretary AICC legal department, K C Mittal said that Modi was seen going to the polling station to cast his vote and on his way out of the polling booth, he was campaigning for the party and delivering a speech.

Mittal said, Modi's speech and display of party symbol is violation of Representation of People Act and model code of conduct. Demanding immediate action against him, the party said that Modi or his associates be restrained from going to polling booths and campaigning in any manner and he be disqualified.

Election Commission has asked for a report from Ahmedabad Collector and Returning Officer Roopwant Singh over the incident. He later said that a preliminary report has been sent to the CEO. He said they will also submit the video clip.

As per the Election Commission norms, if a party candidate canvasses within the radius of 100 metres of a polling booth, he can be booked for violation of model code of conduct.
