EC decides not to intervene in matter concerning arrest, judicial custody of Jagan Reddy

The Election Commission has decided not to intervene in the matter concerning the arrest and judicial custody of YSR Congress Chief Jaganmohan Reddy, whose mother has sought his release in view of the coming bypolls in Andhra Pradesh.

The three-member Election Commission met under the Chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner SY Quraishi and discussed the letter from YS Vijayamma, seeking a direction from the Commission for her son's release.

The EC, in a communication released to media by Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar-Lal late last night, explained why it decided not to intervene in the issue.

The Commission said, the case against Jagan is sub-judice before a CBI court and he is under judicial custody under the orders of the court and is not under the custody of the CBI.

Earlier yesterday, a Special CBI court in Hyderabad asked the CBI to file counter affidavit to the bail petition by Jaganmohan Reddy.

Jagan, who was arrested and produced before the special court on Monday, is on judicial remand in the Chanchalguda Central jail till the 11th of next month in connection with the alleged disproportionate assets case.
