EC crackdown on unaccounted money and liquor in Punjab

In Punjab, Election Commission is fully geared up to hold free and fair elections in the state. Special Chief electoral officers of Punjab Usha Sharma said in Chandigarh that in the coming days the Commission will be more vigilant to ensure the check on the flow of liquor and drugs which can sway the voters. Meanwhile, unaccounted cash of Rs 30 crore 64 lakh 93 thousand has been seized in the state and it has been referred to Income Tax Department.Liquor, poppy husk and other drugs are being seized in the state at different places daily. Commission has received 2400 complaints of violation of Model Code of Conduct out of which 1510 have been resolved.Commission has suspended one Station Head Officer and shifted five SHOs after verifying complaints against them. Besides, three officers of Local Bodies Department have also been transferred for violation of Model Code of Conduct.Report has been sought from Chief Secretary of the state regarding the complaint against an IAS officer.Meanwhile, election campaign is reaching its peak as national leaders of Congress and Bhartiya Janata Party addressed rallies yesterday at different places in the state. Workers of all the parties were seen doing door to door campaigning.
