EC bans display of election matter via media during 48 hrs of conclusion of polls in Bihar

Election Commission has banned display of any election matter by means of television or similar media during the 48 hours of the conclusion of poll in a constituency ahead of Bihar Assembly polls.<br/><br/>In a press note, the Commission said, the violation of this provision of the Representation of People Act is punishable with imprisonment up to a period of two years or with fine or both.<br/><br/>It has asked the TV, radio channels and cable network to ensure that the contents of the programme telecast or broadcast or displayed by them do not contain any material that may affect the result of the election. <br/><br/>The Commission has also prohibited conduct of exit poll and dissemination of results during the period from the commencement of the polls in the first phase and till half hour after the close of poll in the last phase in the State. <br/><br/>The Commission has also drawn the attention of print and electronic media to the guidelines of Press Council of India and News Broadcast Standard Authority for observance during election.
