EC bans BJP leader Giriraj Singh from campaigning in Bihar, Jharkhand

The Election Commission today banned BJP leader Giriraj Singh from campaigning in Bihar and Jharkhand for his highly inflammatory speeches. In its directive to the Chief Secretaries of both the states, the commission asked them not to allow him to hold rallies, public meetings, road shows and take all preventive measures to restrain him. The poll body was very critical of Giriraj Singh's speech that those, who do not vote for Modi, should go to Pakistan. The Commission said this was totally violative of principles enshrined in the constitution. Such statement only promote feeling of hatred and ill-will and create disharmony between different communities. The Commission also asked the states for compliance reports in this regard by Thursday evening.

It also issued a show cause notice to Giriraj Singh asking him to explain his stand by Thursday. At a rally on 18th of this month in Bokaro and Deoghar , the BJP leader had made the provocative remarks which was strongly condemned by the different political parties.
