EC asks TV channels not to flout people's representation act

The Election Commission has asked Television and Radio channels and cable networks not to violate the provisions of the Representation of People's Act, 1951 which prohibits display of poll matter during 48 hours before end of voting. The Election Commission in its advisory said that the violation of provision of this Act is punishable with imprisonment for upto a period of two years, or with fine or both.

The Commission has also clarified that while telecasting or broadcasting programmes like debate or panel discussions, current affairs programmes, it should be ensured that these do not violate the provisions of the Act.
