In Uttar Pradesh, the Election Commission has appointed 35 observers for biennial elections to legislative council. The commission has directed all of them to reach their constituencies by the 29th of this month. The Chief Electoral officer of the state has written a letter to the State Government for relieving them immediately for their election assignments. <br/>The Commission has asked the deputed observers for sending their reports to the commission immediately on poll preparedness. Meanwhile battle lines have been drawn in the state as 193 candidates are left in fray after completion of scrutiny and withdrawal of nomination papers. <br/>Polling is slated for the 7th of next month for 36 seats from the local bodies’ constituencies. Counting of votes will be held on the 9th of next month. <br/>More than 900 polling stations will be set up for over one lakh twenty five thousand voters. Elected members of the local bodies, Gram pradhans, MLAs and MPs are eligible to the vote in this election. Of the seats going to the polls, 22 are held by the Samajwadi Party, BJP-6, RLD-2, Congress-1 and SJP-1. Their present tenure ends on the 15th of this month. Four seats are vacant.<br/>
