Himalayas are among the most ecologically fragile landscapes in the world. With the core mandate to preserve the environment of the cold desert of Changthang, people planted more than seven lakh saplings under GO GREEN GO ORGANIC project and also started farming.<br />''&nbsp;<br />''The Eastern part of Ladakh, Chanthang is venturing into agriculture. The local communities, familiar as &quot;Changpas&quot; are known for practicing pastoral nomadism. With recent changes, leaving their animal herding practices people have now started taking up agriculture. Pushing a complete collapse of the social cohesion structures, traditional knowledge and practices, many Youth are now engaged as laboured wagers and in tourism allied sectors. In 2013, His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche initiated a project called &quot;Go Green Go Organic&quot; with the core mandate to preserve the fragile Himalayan environment and to plant thousands of trees involving the local communities.<br />''&nbsp;<br />''<span style="color: #222222;">In the coming years, they intend to venture promoting local products made by the youth and communities and also to focus on providing support to entrepreneurs that promote local organic fertilizers, dairy products and other local produce like incense and stinging nettles.
