A powerful earthquake has struck a remote mountainous region of Tajikistan. According to the US Geological Survey, the 6.1 magnitude quake hit at 2.45 GMT, 106 kilometres southwest of Karakul lake, near the border with China. There were no immediate reports of casualties. The quake was also felt in neighbouring Kyrgyzstan.
