A strong earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale struck northern Chile last night. The Chile Seismological Service said the earthquake occurred at 12:35 a.m. local time with its epicenter near the borders with Peru and Bolivia. It said the earthquake was felt most intensely near the cities of Iquique and Alto Hospicio. Local media reported that there was alarm among locals in the city of Calama. However, so far no damage or serious injuries have been reported.
