Earthquake of 5.7 magnitude jolts north-west Pakistan

A moderate earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale jolted Peshawar and most parts of northwestern Pakistan on Thursday morning. An official of Pakistan’s meteorological department, Mr. Muhammad Riaz said the the tremor lasted for 20 seconds and shook most parts of the country including Swat valley and Hazara division and Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The official said the epicenter of the earthquake was located in the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border, some 280 kilometers from Peshawar. The tremors were also felt in Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pak-occupied Kashmir and several other parts of the region. There was no report of damage and casualty.
