Earthquake kills 38 in Turkey

In Turkey, 38 people were killed and 20 others injured when a strong earthquake struck eastern parts of the country early today. Turkish authorities said the quake had a magnitude of 6.2 with a depth of 10 km. Its epicentre was at Basyurt-Karakocan. The deaths and most damage were in the village of Okcular in Elazig province. Panicked residents fled their houses when the quake struck at 0432 local time and the shaking lasted for about a minute. Turkish relief teams have reached the quake zone and set up a crisis centre.
