The Centre has envisaged at least 20,000 MW of solar power generation in the country by 2020.

Replying to supplementaries in the Rajya Sabha today, Minister for Renewable Energ, Dr. Farooq Abdullah said his ministry was extending financial assistance to the state governments to encourage renewable energy sources. He said the Government was eager to encourage solar energy in the country.

The Minister has complimented Gujarat and Rajasthan governments for their progress in the solar energy generation saying that the two states have shown the way to other states in the sector.
