E-auctions to ensure faster supply of coal to power units

The government has decided to offer E-auction of coal to ensure faster supply to Power generation units. This step is expected to help power sector to overcome the temporary shortage of coal.

An official press release said that the Coal Ministry will allocate additional quantity of coal to the power sector from the e-auction quota.
E-auction is a process whereby coal is sold at spot market price.

Around 10 per cent of the total coal produced by state-run Coal India is sold through e-auction.

Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal took stock of the coal availability for the power sector with senior officials and Head of Public Sector Coal Companies.

The Minister directed the officials to immediately increase loading of coal to 180 rakes per day from the present 153 rakes. Out of these 145 rakes will be reserved for power sector
