The first batch of E-auction of 24 coal mines begins today in compliance with the Supreme Court order on coal mine auction. Out of the 24 mines, seven mines are to be auctioned for the power sector,16 for other end use plants of iron and cement and one mine for the steel sector. The last date for receiving technical bids will be 31st January and the list of qualified bidders will be placed on website on 12th February next year.

Briefing about the process of auctioning in New Delhi, Coal Secretary Anil Swarup said the entire process will be transparent, efficient and conducted online only. He said the bidders of specified end use plants are only permitted to participate in this auction. E-auction for qualified bidders will be held from 14th February to 22nd February and the entire process of auctioning will be completed by 23rd March 2015.
