Dust and thunder storms have claimed 73 lives in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. While 47 people were killed in Uttar Pradesh, 26 persons died in Bihar. Temperature dipped into the comfort zone following rain in most parts of North India. In Uttar Pradesh, death toll in yesterday’s cyclonic storm has risen to 47. State Relief Commissioner K K Sinha said, 11 people died in Shahjehanpur, an equal number in Lakhimpur Kheri and nine in Badaun districts. The high velocity wind at a speed of over 100 Kms per hour has damaged mango crop on a large scale. AIR correspondent reports that electric supply has been badly affected in the state due to squall. In Bihar, death toll in rain and thunder storm related incidents has gone up to 26. Most of the casualties have been reported from Bhagalpur, Patna and Saran districts. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has instructed the affected district administration to assess the damage caused by strong winds. Besides a large number of trees, electric and mobile towers have been uprooted at many places. AIR correspondent reports that efforts are on to restore electric supply in the state.
