Dussehra and Vijaya Dashmi, marking the triumph of good over evil, are being celebrated across the country today with traditional gaiety and enthusiasm.<br/><br/>Dussehra is regarded as the day when Lord Ram defeated Ravana and rescued Sita. As the sun set in the evening, the effigies of demon Ravana, his son Meghnad and brother Kumbhakaran are burnt.<br/><br/>On Vijaya Dashmi, devotees submerge the idols of Durga in rivers and lakes on the 10th day to symbolise her return to mud from which she was made.<br/><br/>President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Mohd. Hamid Ansari, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have greeted the people.
