Dubai and the gulf region along with its large expatriate Indian community is celebrating the win of its bid to host the World Trade Fair or the EXPO in 2020. Dubai won over beat Russia's Yekaterinburg in the final round of voting in Paris. The other contenders were Sao Paulo in Brazil and Izmir in Turkey. Fireworks exploded from the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building last night after the announcement in Paris. Dubai Government has declared a national holiday today and all the schools and colleges have been closed. Dubai will be the first Middle Eastern city to hold the Expo, which takes place every five years.The ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid al-Maktoum, has promised to astonish the world with the event. He said that Dubai Expo 2020 will breathe new life into the ancient role of the Middle East as a melting pot for cultures and creativity. The expatriate Indian community joined in the celebrations in a big way. The former President of Dubai Chapter of Indian Business and Professional Council, IBPC, Bharat Bhutaney said it will add to the trade, economy, tourism and hospitality sectors in the host city in the long run. The former President of the Dubai Chapter of Global Overseas People of Indian Origin, GOPIO , Kamal Vachani said expatriate Indian community has played a major rile and will continue to play its role in coming out with the best during EXPO 2020 in Dubai. The theme of Dubai for the EXPO 2020 is Connecting Minds, Creating the Future. Dubai authorities say the Expo 2020 will bring in around $23billion. According to estimates the financing for the six-month event will cost a total of $8.4 billion, with the government spending around $6.5billion on infrastructure projects. A huge exhibition center will be built to host the event, plus new hotels and an extension to Dubai's metro line. The city has run a campaign for over two years to win the EXPO 2020 and created a lot of infrastructure to support its bid. EXPO brings home more number of visitors and adds to the trade, economy, tourism and hospitality sectors in the host city in the long run. Dubai has set a target to attract 25 million people. Since its inception in London in 1851, more than a billion people have visited the World EXPO. The next EXPO in 2020 is being held in Milan in 2015.
