DU Syndicate withdraws expulsion order issued against Sheikh Mujib after 6 decades

The Dhaka University Syndicate has withdrawn the expulsion order issued against Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from its law department after nearly six decades on the eve of his 35th death anniversary. The decision was taken at a special meeting of the Dhaka University syndicate on Saturday morning.The Registrar of Dhaka University told our AIR Dhaka Correspondent that proposal to withdraw the expulsion order was placed before the syndicate by the Vice Chancellor of the University AAMS Arefin Siddique and was approved by the syndicate.The Dhaka University authorities had issued an order at the behest of the then Pakistan Government, expelling Bangabandhu who was a student of its Law Department on the charge of supporting a strike by class IV employees on the campus for pay hike and better service conditions.The decision to withdraw the expulsion comes on the eve of his 35th death anniversary which will be observed tomorrow. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with his wife and three sons were killed in a coup on August 15, 1975 just a few hours ahead of his scheduled visit to the Dhaka University as the Chancellor.
