DU sends fresh proposal to UGC in bid to end admission stalemate

The Delhi University has sent a proposal of a three year honours course to the University Grants Commission,UGC, to end the stalemate over the admission issue.

Addressing a press conference, the University's media coordinator Malay Neerav said, the University is awaiting the response of the UGC.

Neerav said, if the proposal is accepted by the UGC, it would be easier for the University to start the admission process without delay and students will be admitted under the 3-year honours programme. Neerav said admission seekers will not be required to apply afresh.

He said the proposal has been prepared by a group of renowned academics.

Earlier in the morning, members of the All India Students Association, AISA, tried to march to the Rashtrapati Bhavan to seek immediate intervention of President Pranab Mukherjee but they were detained by the Delhi Police.

The UGC had issued a fresh ultimatum to the University asking it to begin the admission process under the 3-year course from today.
