DSC of parliament should be entrusted to scrutinize report of accounts of depts : President

President Pranab Mukherjee has suggested that the Departmental Standing Committees of the Parliament should be entrusted to scrutinize the report of accounts of the departments as the Public Accounts Committee is not in position to examine all reports due to paucity of time.<br/><br/>Inaugurating the 28th Accountants General Conference in New Delhi today, Mr Mukherjee said, such step can bring additional accountability in the governance. He said, the decision needs political consensus. <br/><br/>The President said, the functioning of the Government has expanded manifold and economic activities have increased. He said, technology brings transparency and it can strengthen the delivery services. <br/><br/>He said, the tradition of auditing by CAG is still relevant. He said, over the years healthy relations have been established between Parliament and CAG.<br/><br/>The Accountants General Conference is a prime platform, where the entire top level management of the Indian Audit and Accounts Department comes together once in two years to review, discuss and recommend the direction in which the department needs to move in order to deliver its mandated duties in the best possible manner. <br/><br/>It offers a forum for exchange of ideas, grappling with evolving issues and experience sharing. At least 200 Accountants General from across the country are participating in the conference brainstorm upon the best global practices in auditing and resolution of the challenges faced. The conference will deliberate upon <br/><br/>auditing the programmes related to sustainable development goals, meeting challenges in revenue audit, impact of Integrated Financial Management System on accounts and entitlement functions and perspectives and concerns in the audit of local bodies.<br/>Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, Public Accounts Committee Chairman of Parliament K.V. Thomas and CAG of India Shashi Kant Sharma also addressed the conference.
