In Bihar, the threat of drought looms large over the state due to scanty rainfall, deficit rainfall has already impacted paddy transplant. The Agricultural department said, only 86 percent paddy seedling plantation has been achieved so far. The Met office said, Bihar received 316 mm rainfall between June 1 and July 13 against the normal rainfall of 357 mm, a deficit of 13 percent. Agriculture experts say that deficit rainfall might spell doom for kharif crops. The State Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh told AIR that the situation is not so alarming yet. However he said, if rains fail to lash Bihar in the next eight days, it would affect paddy yield significantly with fields already drying up.
