Citizens will now be spared from the hassle of carrying driving licences and vehicle registration certificates physically. The digital version of licence and the registration documents will be available on citizens' cellphones via the DigiLocker mobile app. This will ensure authenticated on the spot verification by law enforcement authorities like the traffic police. DigiLocker is a key initiative under Digital India programme and serves as a platform for issuance of documents and certificates in a digital way. <br/><br/>Road and Transport and IT Ministries today jointly launched integration of DigiLocker with Driving Licenses and Vehicle Registration Certificates at a function in New Delhi. Speaking on the occasion, Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said, the move will benefit a large number of people by facilitating ease of access to the documents. He said, if someone is stopped anywhere, he or she can show driving licence on mobile phone. <br/><br/>The Minister said, the decision is vital for the transport sector where 19.5 crore vehicles are registered and there are 10 crore driving licences. Information and Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, the integration will bring a major shift in the vision of paperless governance. He said, it will bring efficiency to the entire process of issuance of driving licenses and vehicle registration certificates through IT enablement.
