DRDO to develop technologies to tame terrorists, extremists

<br/>Defence Research and Development Organistaion, DRDO says it has ventured into technologies to support security forces in their operations against terrorists and extremists. These include technologies against nuclear, biological and chemical attacks.<br/><br/>DRDO chief V K Saraswat said in New Delhi that his organisation has opened a separate Division that will cater to weapons, equipment and life support systems for the paramilitary and police forces. He said India is already having most of these technologies which can be customised for the needs of security forces.<br/><br/>On pitting indigenous Arjun tanks against Russian T-90s, Mr Saraswat said trials will take place soon which will not compare the tanks' capabilities but test operational advantages in different terrains and weather conditions to decide on their deployment patterns.<br/><br/>In reply to a question, he said the DRDO needs to catch up with the latest technologies for developing night vision technology for night blind tanks. About unmanned aerial vehicle programmes, the DRDO chief said Nishant and Lakshya are in progress, apart from a Medium Altitude Long Endurance UAV Rustom, a prototype of which was flown for the first time a couple of months ago.
