DRDO sets up lab at Madras University

The DRDO has set up a lab at Madras University for conducting high-end research to develop nano devices. Telemedicine facility for jawans in remote areas will soon be a reality with University of Madras and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) joining hands to develop nano devices for monitoring blood pressure and ECG. W Selvamurthy, chief controller, life sciences and human resource, DRDO, was chairing the national centre for nano science’s governing council meeting at Madras University yesterday. He said centre was keen in using nano-science and technology for military purposes to develop equipments for the armed forces using nano materials. He also added that DRDO would use nano technology to build a missile capable of travelling 5,000 kilometres to attack enemy territory. Madras University vice-chancellor G Thiruvasagam said that during 2006 the Centre had sanctioned Rs 100 crore to theuniversity for setting up research lab for nano science and technology, apart from starting new post graduate course in nano-technology.
