The Defence Research and Development Organisation, DRDO have successfully developed a new molecule to work as multi-insect repellent wipes. The breakthrough technology is known as Diethyl Phenyl Acetamide (DEPA). The repellent wipes can be used for personal protection against mosquitoes and other blood sucking insects especially responsible for diseases like Malaria, Dengue, Chikungunia, Yellow fever, Black Fever, Elephantiasis and Japanese Encephalitis. Launching the product in New Delhi today, the Chief Controller of Research and Development, DRDO Dr. Prahlada said that the unique product is being made available for the use of common people after tested results on animals and human beings. Giving details of the product Dr. Prahlada said that the technology has been transferred to a private company after due examination by the government. He said that the product is being launched in the market through the DRDO – FICCI Accelerated Technology Assessment and Commercialisation Programme. The Chief Scientist said that nine products are under consideration for commercialisation. It has brought 19 crore rupees as licence fee to the government besides royalty. Dr. Prahlada said that these products may be exported to other countries also. Talking to All India Radio, Dr. Prahlada said that the next item to be marketed will be biodegradable product beside others.
