Dr Swaminathan calls for readjustment of India's available resources

Renowned agricultural scientist Dr MS Swaminathan has called for readjusting the available resources of the country to make India hunger free within five years. Urging the centre to relauch schemes like ICDS and mid day meal programme of schools, Dr Swaminathan said such schemes need to be based on life cycle appraoch. He was addressing the media at the ongoing Indian Science Congress at Thiruvananthapuram. Expressing concern over global warming he said the impact of two degree celcius increase in termparature on food grain and plantation crops calls for focussed research.<br/><br/>Dr Swaminathan has said that it is high time to set up agriculture clinics and business centres across the country to revitalise the agrarian sector of India. Climate change and global warming is to have cascading impact on production of food grains and pulses. Speaking about food security Dr Swaminathan said that the future belongs to nations with greens and not guns. Young generation needs to be attracted to farming with proper incentive. Dr Swaminathan expressed concern over National Sample Survey report showing that 45 per cent of farmers wish to leave farming since the same is not lucarative. He further added that if we relaunch the entire approach towards agriculture average yeild can be doubled.
