Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu today said Dr A P J Abdul Kalam played a pioneering role in making India's defence and space systems self-reliant. <br/><br/>Speaking at an event to flag-off 'Clean and Green India' rally in New Delhi, Mr Naidu said, Dr Kalam was chief architect of India's Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme, under which five missiles – Prithvi, Agni, Trishul, Akash and Nag were developed. He also said, the late President used to advise school children and youngsters to dare to dream and reach for the sky.<br/><br/>Vice President said, Dr Kalam's vision was to see India as a developed country by 2020 and he was convinced that the country could achieve that status because of the talent, sincerity and hard working nature of the people. <br/><br/>Mr Naidu said, the time has come when every citizen should work towards building a New and Resurgent India. He said, the first and foremost need is to overcome various social ills plaguing the country like poverty, illiteracy, casteism, communalism and atrocities on women and weaker sections.
