The Dow and the S&P 500 indexes gained marginally yesterday, helped by gains in industrial and defensive stocks. On the other hand, the Nasdaq composite remained almost unchanged as investors awaited minutes from the Federal Reserve's meeting after the central bank took a more hawkish tone last month.
 
The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500, both climbed 0.3 percent while the Nasdaq Composite ended flat.
