Union Minister for railways Suresh Prabhu said that double-racking will pave the way for development of the of the Konkan Railway (KR) route.<br/><br/>Mr. Prabhu was speaking at the inauguration of first phase of double tracking and electrification of Konkan Railway Routes in Kolad at Rohe Taluka in Raigaid District today.<br/><br/>The Minister said that introduction of new services and adoptions of modern technology are part of his ministry's conscious efforts towards making the Indian railway a world class transport service.<br/><br/>Prabhu said that doubling of the track would will generate more revenue, help Konkan Raiwlay to increase its passenger handling capacity, and also serve the people better, while the electrification will save operation costs.<br/><br/>He also said that proposed project like 112-km-long Karad and Chiplun railway line and the Kolhapur-Vaibhavwadi rail route would improve the Konkan railway connectivity with Western Maharashtra. He also stated that Ratnagiri station would evolve as a major junction in upcoming projects like that of Goa Rajdhani express.<br/><br/>Union Minister for heavy industries Anant Gite, MP Vinayak Raut, were also present.<br/><br/>Speaking on the occasion, Minister Anant Gite recommended the railway minister to seek collaboration with Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd -RCF for completion of 38 km long Pen -Alibagh railway line project.
