DoT allocates 3G Spectrum to the operators

Department of Telecom(DoT) today allocated third generation, 3G, Spectrum to the operators. The spectrum was allocated after their successful bidding. The auction of the spectrum fetched government 67,000 crore rupees. Sources in the department of telecom told our correspondent that the department amended service providers licence norms to allow 3 G service. The move paves the way for the launch of high-speed mobile broadband services in the country. These services are expected to be operational by the end of this year. Our correspondent adds that the third generation mobile communications allow telecom operators to offer better quality of voice calls .Moreover, its users can download music files, full movie and other files at high speed. The 3G users can access high-speed Internet anytime anywhere and can also make video calls. TV programmes can also be watched on mobile handsets with a 3G connection.
