‘Dorjee Khandu sworn in as chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh

In Arunachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu has been sworn in for a second consecutive time. Governor Retd General JJ Singh administered the oath of office and secrecy to Khandu in a function at the Durbar Hall of the Itanagar Raj Bhawan this morning. This is Khandu’s fifth term as member of the State Legislative Assembly. A host of dignitaries including central observers V Narayansamy, Luizinho Faleiro, AICC secretary Sanjoy Bapna and State Congress president Nabam Tuki attended the swearing in ceremony.<br/>54 year old Dorjee Khandu was born in Gyangkhar village in Tawang district. A former cadre of the Army Intelligence Core for 7 years, he was conferred the Gold Medal for Meritorious services during the Bangladesh War. He was elected uncontested to the First Arunachal State Assembly in March 1990. Before becoming the Chief Minister in April 2007, Khandu had held different portfolios in the state government including cooperation, Power, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Mines, Relief and Rehabilitation, and Disaster Management. This is also the third time that he has been elected unopposed from Mukto constituency. <br/>In Hayana, Mr.Bhupinder Sigh Hooda is to take over as the Chief Minister of state for the second time this evening. The State Governor, Mr. Jaganath Pahadia will administer him the oath of office and secrecy. Our Chandigarh Correspondent reports that some MLAs may also take oath along with him.<br/>In Maharshtra, Mr.Ashok Chavan will be sworn-in as Chief Minister for the second term only after Tuesday when Congress' alliance partner NCP elects its legislature party leader who will be the Deputy Chief Minister of the state.A meeting of 62 newly-elected NCP legislators and MLCs will be held tomorrow in Mumbai in the presence of party observers to decide their leader. State water resources minister and MLA Ajit Pawar and home minister Jayant Patil are the major contenders for Deputy Chief minister's post. Congress President Sonia Gandhi yesterday named Ashok Chavan as chief minister of the state for a second term. This decision was taken at a meeting late last night with Party Observers in charge of the state,Digvjay Singh, A K Antony and K Rehman Khan in the presence of Mr Chavan, Mr Vilasrao Deshmukh and Mr Narayan Rane in New Delhi. <br/>A meeting of the Shiv Sena legislators will also be held tomorrow at the party headquarters at Dadar in Central Mumbai to decide the Party's leader in legislature.<br/>
