Speaking on the sidelines of the major economic summit in Japan, the US President, Barack Obama, has warned that no country should assume that they can depend on exporting to America to become prosperous. His comments came as leaders of 21 Pacific nations meet in Yokohama for an APEC Summit. The long-term aim of APEC is to create a massive free trade area around the Pacific rim. The region accounts for more than half the world's economic output. But, after disagreements over currency exchange rates and trade imbalances at the G-20, little tangible progress is expected to be made. Much of the focus will be on whether the leaders of Japan and China hold the one-to-one meeting at the sidelines of the summit. Asia's two biggest economies have been at loggerheads since early September.
