The domestic equity benchmarks ended the week with strong gains. Positive global cues and reversal in foreign fund selling in the Indian market boosted the sentiments. The key indices logged gains in all five trading sessions of the week. The Sensex closed above 56,000 points. The Nifty settled above 16,700 mark.

In the week ended yesterday, the Sensex gained 2,311 points or 4.3 percent to settle at 56,072. The Nifty index advanced 670 points or 4.18 percent to settle at 16,719. In the broader market at the BSE, The BSE Mid-Cap rose 3.53 percent and the Small Cap gained 3.86 percent.
