In Uttar Pradesh, the strike by junior doctors of all the medical colleges has hit hard the government health services across the state. The agitating medicos are demanding immediate revocation of cases slapped against Kanpur doctors on Friday. Meanwhile all the arrested and jailed junior doctors have been released on bail this evening. However police sources said that the court has only granted bail to them and no cases have been withdrawn. The protesting doctors have refused to call off the strike unless action against SSP Kanpur Yashaswi Yadav and ruling party MLA Irfan Solanki is taken.
CM Akhilesh Yadav said that CCTV footage of the Kanpur Medical College is being screened and all the persons found guilty will be punished. He appealed to the doctors that they should immediately return to their work which otherwise is causing a great discomfort to the needy patients. He said he has directed officers to conduct a probe, meet representatives of both the sides and take action against those responsible.
AIR Lucknow correspondent, after visiting King George Medical University of the state capital, reports that patients are compelled to suffer the most as the doctors have locked the OPD and totally boycotted the medical services in all the departments. The senior and junior resident doctors of the university are continuously staging a sit in at its main entrance. Around 300 doctors from GSVMC and Hallet Hospital in Kanpur have already handed over their resignation to the principal, in protest against the alleged highhandedness of the district administration. Agitating doctors are also getting support from IMA led private doctors across all major cities including Meerut, Moradabad, Bareilly, Kanpur, Lucknow, Allahabad, Varanasi and Gorakhpur.
