Doctors call off strike at Safdarjang Hospital

Doctors at Safdarjang Hospital in Delhi have called off their strike. The decision came after two rounds of talks between the striking doctors and representatives of government and Hospital administration.The striking doctors have resumed their duties.Later speaking to media , President of the Residents Doctors Association Chandrabhan Jatav said that they have been given assurances of adequate security in the hospital premises. He said that the government has agreed to increase the number of security guards from the present 300 to 500. This will implemented from the 1st of next month. As a long term measure, the idea of creating a Hospital Protection Force was also accepted . The process will begin shortly. The resident doctors also pressed for effective implementation of the policy of allowing only one attendant per patient.Nearly 1200 doctors went on a strike at the hospital yesterday after one of their colleagues was allegedly beaten up by relatives of a patient. The doctors wanted adequate security for them at the hospital premises. Our correspondent says, patient care services were affected by the strike and many patients who had come from states like Bihar, Assam, Madhya Pradesh and neighbouring areas were left to fend for themselves.
