Do not bring judiciary to disrepute for few erring judges: CJI

Chief Justice of India S H Kapadia today said the entire judicial system cannot be brought to disrepute because of few erring judges. He said anyone coming out with allegations against any member of the judiciary should have solid material to back their charges instead of painting everyone with the same brush.

Dismissing claims of many cases pending with the judiciary, Chief Justice Kapadia said that only 8,710 cases are pending in the Supreme Court.

He stressed the need for uplifting the integrity, excellence and competence of the judiciary, saying this will enable them to maintain the confidence and trust of the people.

He said awareness of rights has gone up and the nature of litigations particularly the PILs have undergone complete change.

This requires a careful handling as the consequences of the judicial orders have far reaching consequences.

Talking to reporters on the side lines of the function Law Minister Salman Khurshid said that government is working to accelerate the Judicial appointment system in the country.
