Do more to ensure territory not used by terror groups: Clinton, Krishna to Pak

Visiting US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton today asked Pakistan to do more to ensure its territory is not used as launching pad by terror groups for attacks. Ms. Clinton said that Jamat ud Dawa Chief Hafiz Sayeed was one of the principal architects of the 2008 Mumbai carnage that killed 166 people including six Americans. Speaking at a joint press conference after meeting with External Affairs Minister S.M Krishna in New Delhi. Ms. Clinton said, the United States is committed to going after those who pose a terror threat to peace and stability of the world. She said, the US is committed to do everything to combat violent extremism.

External Affairs Minster S.M Krishna said both India and the United States have pledged to work together in combating terrorism and also to bring to justice the perpetrators of the Mumbai terror attack. Mr. Krishna said, elimination of safe havens in Pakistan is vital for the success for the peace and prosperity of Afghanistan. The US also urged India to slash oil supplies from Iran. The situation in Afghanistan also came up for review and S M Krishna said that the recent terrorist attack in Kabul has highlighted the need for eliminating terror sanctuaries in the neighborhood. Mr. Krishna conveyed to the visiting Secretary of State, India's concern over difficulties in mobility of professionals from the IT companies and protectionist sentiments in that country.
