DMRC has no proposal to introduce dedicated coach for elderly: Rao Inderjit Singh

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has no proposal to introduce a dedicated coach for elderly in Delhi Metro trains. This was stated by Minister of State for Urban Development Rao Inderjit Singh in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.<br/><br/>According to data collected during Customer Satisfaction Survey 2016 by DMRC, senior citizens account for only one per cent of the total ridership of the metro system indicating that on an average, 3 to 4 senior citizens would be travelling in each car of a metro train at any given time.<br/><br/>On an average, out of about 50 seats in each metro coach, up to 28 per cent seats have been reserved for the senior citizens, ladies, differently-abled persons, and persons with special needs. The Survey said as such, the present arrangement for senior citizens is adequate.
