<br/>The DMK has urged the Centre to intervene and solve various inter state river disputes by convening a meeting of the Chief Ministers of the concerned states. Talking to news persons men in Chennai on Saturday after the Party General Council meeting, DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi said that he has written a letter to the Congress President Mrs Sonia Gandhi in this regard.<br/><br/>Earlier, the DMK General Council urged the state government not to participate in the five member committee constituted by the Supreme Court to go into the safety and other technical aspects of the Mullaiperiyar Dam. The General Council also urged the Centre to bring necessary amendments in the essential commodities act, to contain spiraling prices of food commodities. The party also wanted the Centre not to hike the prices of petroleum products.
