DMK today said that it stands by former Telecom Minister A Raja. A resolution adopted at the DMK General Council meeting in Chennai, said, the opposition is unnecessarily targeting Raja. The party said, just because he is arrested, Raja cannot be called guilty. The DMK slammed the opposition for blowing out of proportion the 2G Spectrum scam, saying it is only to malign the party. The meeting comes against the backdrop of the arrest of former Telecom Minister and DMK leader A Raja.The resolution said, instead of taking up issues which affects common man, the opposition parties’ wasted precious time of the parliament. The statement said that already an inquiry is being conducted by the Public Accounts Committee under the chairman ship of BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi. As far as the issue of Raja's continuing in the party is concerned, it has already been said the DMK leader Karunanidhi that if Raja is proved guilty, the party would take the decision impartially. It said, instead of taking action on Karnataka Chief Minister, who is also facing several accusations; it was unfair on the part of the BJP to malign the DMK. The resolution stated that an agreement has been reached between DMK and Congress for the forthcoming assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. The resolution does not say anything on the alliance with other parties.With regard to Srilanka issue, the resolution said that the party is satisfied and grateful to the centre for taking necessary action as and when required whenever fishermen issue came up. The resolution also appealed to the centre to renew the Katchtheevu agreement. The resolution also states that centre should reiterate on the political empowerment of Tamils living in Srilanka as that will be only permanent solution for the misery of the Tamils living in the island nation.
